John Young is the co-founder, along with partner Jim Abrams, of AirTimeTM 500.
John has applied knowledge gained from three decades in the industry to become one of the greatest marketers in the contracting industry.
He began his career with The Trane Company in Kansas City. By 1982, he had become manager of product planning in Trane's Lacrosse, Wisconsin, headquarters.
In 1983 and 1984, John was vice president of marketing for Modern Air Conditioning in Fort Myers, Florida, where he led a 562 percent increase in his department's sales and an 1,100 percent increase in profit contribution over 24 months.
In 1984, John co-founded and became president of Fort Myers-based Service America, the first franchise company in the HVAC industry. By the time he left in 1986, Service America had more than 100 franchisees.
John founded John Young & Associates in Fort Myers in 1986. As a consultant, Young created the industry's most successful direct-mail letter, a compelling marketing tool that has been widely used ever since. That one letter generated more than $1 billion in sales. John Young & Associates grew to become the most sought-after contracting industry consulting firm of all-time.
John co-founded Contractors Success Group, an HVAC consultant, with Jim Abrams in 1990. Contractors Success Group became an extremely profitable management and marketing consultant and revolutionized the residential air-conditioning service industry.

In 1996, John and Jim co-founded Service Experts, Inc., which became the nation's first publicly held consolidator in the HVAC industry. They took the company public in August 1996 at $60 million in sales. By 1997, it had grown to a run rate of $288 million of managed or acquired companies.
In 1998, John and Jim formed VenVest, Inc., a venture capital firm that is the parent of portfolio companies including AirTimeTM 500, Electricians' Success InternationalTM, Plumbers' Success International®, Success AcademyTM, BuyMaxTM, Benjamin Franklin PlumbingTM, and One Hour Air ConditioningTM.
John holds a degree in nuclear engineering from Kansas State University. |
